Well if everything is okay with the parents and you still notice the abundance of fry (none missing) id leave it for a about 2-3 weeks than move them. You dont want to move them now cause it might cause agression between the parents.

the babies ahve hatched!!! i watched tehm this morning as both of the parents would take a few in their mouth and take them to the other flower pot on teh other side of the tank. very intresting to watch :)

Well the 30 is now divided in half and the two females that were with the pair are in the one half and the channel cats are in the other half. i went to the lfs jsut now and bought a male pink con to put in there so ill have two breeding areas. cant wait untill these cons breed :D

Hey gar man? I'm having a little trouble breeding my convicts, yeah that's right. I said I'm having trouble breeding convicts. HAH...anyways, can you go through the steps of what your pair did? I finally found a male that won't kill the female. They follow eachother here and there, but I wouldn't exactlly call them a pair. The male wags his tail in the female's face sometimes, and she has been digging sometimes as well. How did your convict pair start? What I'm trying to say is how exactlly do they court eachother? How long have you had them? Did you feed any special foods? Did their bars darken? I've only had mine for about 3-4 days, maybe I'm just being impatient. But I just REALLY want to breed fish now, I'm in no ways new to fishkeeping. But a comeplete novice to breeding. Thanks.

well they laid eggs 4 days after i got the male. and i was feeding them 2 times a day with hikari cichlid staple. they paired up and forced the other 2 female cons into the upper areas of the 10 gallon hex. also the water is about 78 degrees. hope i helped :)

convict are breeding machine.. i had 5 convicts and they breed to having over 100.. i didnt do much.. i leave all the parent in there becasue they take care of them.. but both parent might be aggressive toward other fish..

Its really quite easy. My male and female were breeding within a week of being introduced to each other. For the first 3-4 days the male was extremely aggressive toward the female. I made lots of hiding places just the right size so the female could hide without the male getting at her. After 5 days the male stopped chasing the female and the females colors became really bright. Her belly turned much more orange and her strips darkened. I lowered the temperature to the low 70's for a day then over the coarse of a few hours raised the temperature up to 79f. I herd this can trigger breeding. Sure enough by the 7th day I had eggs!

Around 90 fry hatched and became free swimming. 3 weeks in, the male once again became aggressive toward the female and actually killed her. I read later that its a good idea to separate the female within a few weeks of the fry hatching and just let the male take care of them. Which he did.

To bad... she was a beautiful looking female.

Best of luck with breeding your cons. I think you'll find that its really not that hard. Just remember to make lots of hiding places.

The male wont let me scrap the algae off the glass...he keeps on biting me lol

ya cause he is thinkin that u are stealing the babies or taking them out.. he is protecting them!
