hey everyone! my friend and i are thking of breeding fish to sell to our lfs so we chose convicts. but are nt completly sure any suggestion on fish that are easy to breed (except guppies, mollies and platys) An help and suggestions are most welcome(on both issues breeding convicts and what fish are easy to breed)
thx :]

stuff like setup of the tank, what to feed and so on. And have any of you ever sold fish to lfs before? if yes wat did u say to the guy and wat fish where you able to sell?

p.s we are only doing this to get some experience in breeding and to get some cash to get a new canister filter for my tank.

Convicts are one of the easiest. All they need is water. Not sure youll get much for the fry though.

Get a young pair in a 20gal., keep up with the water changes and feed them well. The Cons will gladly do the rest. You'll be up to your eye balls in Convict fry in no time. I don't know how it is where you live, but selling cons near me is extremely difficult. Man, it's hard to even give away the fry most of the time. I know of one LFS near me that will by them and he only wants to by them by the fifties. Cons are excellent pets and provide quality feeders. I wish you and your friend the best in your endeavors.

You might want to go mow some neighbors lawns or something because your not going to profit from breeding convicts or any livebearers.
You will be lucky if the LFS will take these fish for free.
You spend more money caring for these fish than you would make selling them.
You might make a couple bucks breeding some africans. But keep the best interest of the fish in mind, and not exploiting for your own personal gain.
Best of luck acquiring your new filter.

thx alot :] any suggestions on fish that sell well with lfs stores?
I think this question depends a lot on the LFS that are near you. In one part of the country one particular fish could be very common and cheap while in another part of the country the same fish could hard to find and expensive. In my neck of the woods Petco and Petsmart reign supreme. They sell the more common fish that people are used to seeing and keeping. The better LFS here are smaller but much much better with stock and diversity. The fish that would guarantee their interest are Festae, Trimacs, Dovii and some other large and/or rare cichlids. You should ask your LFS what they are really interested in buying locally. There may be certain cichlids that they would prefer to buy locally at a cheaper price than having them shipped in at a more expensive price.

the dude says he is in Mauritius, which is in the Indian Ocean, near W. Africa . . .

so, while it's true that Convicts are generally worthless in the US, I have no idea what Convicts are worth out there . . . it might be a perfectly good idea

OP: I suggest you touch base with the local LFS and see what they might suggest . . . better to know in advance than to just guess

if you like convicts, try some of there relative cousins like sajica or hrp or any of the relatives to the cons. dont know if there easy to find your your area but here all we got are pink cons ( black cons are a lil harder to find ) right now i got a pair of blk cons with 6 day old freeswimmers, and its amazing watching them heard there frys around the tank.
