Convict cichlid sexual maturity

Anyone had convicts spawn at around 1”? I bought 4 convicts (3 males, 1 female by the look of it)a week and a half ago, hoping to get a pair. In about 3-5 days the dominant male was already showing off for my female. Now she’s just laid eggs and she’s only an inch long. Didn’t think it would’ve happened this quick. Now she’s not letting anything close to her eggs, even her mate. The eggs are brown so it looks to be fertilized. I’m just wondering if it’s common for the females to spawn at that size and to not let the male anywhere near the eggs.

I have seen females in the pet store in breeding dress and a few batches of eggs from the lot in the tank. None of those convicts were over much over 1".

I knew it was gonna happen, just didn’t think it would’ve happened so quickly haha

The pair I got breed in three days from plopping into my tank. Then proceed to try and claim the whole tank till I got a divider.

They will attack your hand if you put it in the aquarium. They are brave for their size and actually one of my favorite all time Cichlid.

Great looking Cons, not accounting the confetti gravel ?

Get ready now. Every three weeks or so you get another batch. I ended up getting fish to pick off the fry. Catfish, Swordtails, Roseline sharks do a great job.
