Convict Cichlid's are the meanest fish ever.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh god I had a convict cichlid in my tank not so long ago... called him dennis it was quite appropriate considering he was a menace in my tank!! fish bigger that him even a neon jewel and a full grown male frontosa couldnt keep im at bay. He didnt stand a chance against the redtail lol

Well, I geuss you picked out a weak convict, my convict is so mean, he doesn't care how big, the fish are in his tank...he will kill it. When he was 4 inches, he lived with a 9 inch red devil(which now is in a 90 gal), he wopped that devil back n forth, side to side, until the devil nearly passed out.....plus the people who own jag's well let me tell you what, Jag's are territorial most of the time, the reason why you think the jag is the most aggressive, is because of it's size, so if all fish were convict size or an inch or two bigger, the CON would dominate the tank...

my convicts are mean especially my female but my jack dempsey and my red devil, which are almost the same size beat the living **** out of them.they only get aggressive when they breed and thats when they keep my RD and JD cornered. by the way put a convict with a similar sized jag and see what happens.15 minutes after i dropped my jag into the water it fought with my convicts and the outcome was that the male convict was swimming upside down without its fins and the female had a chewed up face.the female survived but the male didn't.

My 5" male con is very docile, but my 2" female was hell on wheels whenever she laid eggs. And when they spawned together, there was no standing up to the two of them.

I guess they are mean, they were chasing everyone away while they were breeding, but then my Midas attacked like mad and my convict got a swim bladder problem from that attack and died the next day. It was quite sad because one day they were defending the fry and the next day the Midas ate the fry and dad was gone so the female was all alone.

i have a friend with a 210 african cichlid community that also has 1 femal jd and 1 male gterror, and a pair of convicts. he had to get rid of the convicts because they where killing his african cichlids. he has some of the most aggresive africans i have ever seen, and they where getting beat up by a 2 inch female convict and a 3 inch male. now that they are gone the jd/gt pair runs the show though, it was better being run by the convicts...

Convicts are in general territorial towards others if the have established the tank way before any other fish.

Sure a 4 inch con would possibly chase a 8" RD but after a while the RD will get used to his surroundings and beat the con senseless. Unless the RD is so timid and has no natural reaction then the statements could be true.

A 15 inch dovii and a pair of 3 inch cons? I take it now the convicts are fecal matter stuck in the filtration system. The cons probably did fight that Dovii but the Dovii will make short work of them. I wouldn't even put my 10" Dovii back with my 14" jag pair because of the possible aftermath!!!

Then I'll put my 6 inch male convict, he has killed a red devil twice his size. haha lol
How is it even possible that a 6 inch con kills a 12 inch devil? When mine were defending their fry they attacked my Midas who was also twice their size, but it hardly had any effect.

Cons are mean, but my FH is meaner, my friend was tired of his con so he snuck it into my 75 when I wasnt home, the con was in half laying on the bottom of the tank when I came back to feed my fish on lunch break lol
