This has become a "My fish is meaner than your fish" thread. Breeding cons are some of the toughest cichlids that i have had but there are plenty others that are just as mean. There are countless scenarios that will change the outcome of battles between cichlids. I personally hate to see my fish shredded and killed by aggressive tankmates.
Convict Cichlid's are the meanest fish ever.

I have 2 female black Convicts and 1 female pink Convict. 1 of the black ones paired off with my HRP and my pink one paired off with my male Cutteri. When either spawn, their tank mates are plastered to the opposite side of the tank. When there isn't eggs/fry to defend, they're not nearly as mean. They're great parents, because they'll die defending their brood. That's why I love keeping them, they're great looking fish and can definitely hold their own.
I have a 75 gallon tank with just cons and all they do is fight, lol. I have tons of them so it evens out but man, they sure do get into some fights.
(Team red terror cichlid). Your nmidas cichlid might be able to kill a convict but let's see it mess with the newest generation of red terror cichlid I have a pair I'm breeding now by just know the babies they have will not be your average they will be quiet underdogs but don't underestimate them the moment your flowerhorn cichlid mess es with him he'll turn their flowerhorn into chowder. Oh by the way my new baby red terror cichlids grow 32 inches.
(Team red terror cichlid). Everyones talking about what convict cichlids do. The newest red terror cichlid I'm making will kill convict cichlids, midas cichlids and red devil cichlids plus they grow 32 inches.
I normal ignore these childish threads,but no way a red terror grows to 32 inches lol.
Bull pucky. I don't understand the pissing match that is saying which cichlid could kill which, it's pointless, immature, and unnecessarily hostile. Go roll around in the grass or something for god sakes.
A nice blue catfish can eat ALL of them, 32 inch epic red devil/dragon included. All things considered, if you want small, cheap, tough and aggressive, the only thing that can match a con is a bluegill. And some people (like my mother) are happy to keep them just to see them defend their eggs from your hands 
If all these fish are being beaten up or killed it just proves that someone can't look after fish properly.
Sure accidents happen but don't brag about it for God's sake.
