I recently got 2 convicts and 1 jack dempsey. They are all about 2 inches long and i was wondering if a jack dempsey and convict could mix? My "jack dempsey" looks like half convict, ill post pics when my cam charges. Im just not sure if Dempseys look like this when they are smaller. He has stripes all along the top and side, but very dark mid body area with the sparkly dempsey look.

Anyways, basically until i can get a pic up, just wondering if its possible? i searched mfk and google/bing. Couldnt find much about a hybird except people asking the same question.

Thanks! :)

I've kept many Dempseys and Convicts together and have never had them hybridize...

Although I cannot say "it's not possible"...

anyone got anymore info? if my cichlid sits still ill post a pic in about 5mins

My Dempsey has lighter colored stripes across his black background (opposite when he was young) when stressed, if just bought and placed in a brand new tank, he could be showing stressed colors. I don't think they can mix, but convicts will try anything once :woot:

heres some pics

it might just be a normal baby jack D but i didnt think they had stipes

it is certainly possible . . . my EBJD and a female convict have been hinting at it for weeks now; they're still a bit smallish, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were eggs one day . . .

guess hes a regular jack dempsey, which is great! thats what i wanted haha.

Thanks everyone!

i just got confused that he had stripes, ive havent been into cichlids that long so i wasnt used to seeing baby JD with stripes, only peoples adult JD

That's how my Jack Dempsey looked.

sure its possible but why do you want to do so? hybrids like this bother me, I like flowerhorns, KKP, all the known hybrids, but these random ones are pointless...
