Convict filtration

That plastic item will not be necessary, convicts are good parents. Okay, you should first of all use a sponge filter, so the fry won't get sucked in. You should start them off on pretty much anything they can eat; newly hatched brine shrimp, or brine shrimp nauplii, is great.

Hey, let me ask, how many gallons is your tank?

I don't know much, but from what I have learned from this site the only type of filtration you should have in a tank with babies(fry) should be a sponge filter. I'm assuming that a big power filter would suck them up and kill them. Sponge filters are awesome, if you don't have one in your tank right now get one anyways. Its the best filter you can have for bio-filtration (good for cleaning up nasty chemicals and it will make you tank a lot clearer.)

if you dont want to get a sponge filter you could always just get a piece of nylon and wrap it on the strainer with a rubber band.

Restricting the input tube of most HOB filters is a bad idea. Wispers are OK with it and some of the AC's but most of others develope problems. Hydro sponge filters are still the best fry filters going.

might I note under $10.. Worth every penny too.

sponge filter and undergravel filter are your best bet and most convic fry won't eat crushed flakes in my experience try baby brine shrimp or green water but you don't have time to set up a green water tank so try newly hatched brine shrimp you can buy eggs at petsmart and other places and there really eazy to hatch you really only need water and salt

either get a sponge filter or cut a sponge and secure it over your filter intake with a rubber band. in my experience, baby cons will eat crushed flakes or pellets or whatever food you use

I have my convicts in a 20 gal, and in my 10 gal that I use for feeders I have a sponge filter.

you shouldn't have a problem the parents usually keep them very close by.
