Probably, but they're ugly. Unless you get Netrite snails.

The ghost shrimp will eat your fry, the cherry shrimp wont. It might be a good idea to try some snails or plecos.

If you wind up with extra shrimp, just sell them to the lfs or feed them to other fish, and or kill them (humanely).

Yep. Shrimps around here (aside from Ghost Shrimp) are pretty popular. LFS around here will always take extras off your hands. I think one of my favourite LFS is going to start setting up more tanks for freshwater inverts (mainly shrimp). I don't know if you area is the same. Or just keep a bigger fish, and they'll eat Shrimp.
