I currently have a convict pair that is a year old that lies eggs every week to a week and a half, but i never see babies swimming around I did have one set of babies but that was before all the other tank mates. They are currently in a 30 gallon with another female convict 2 JD and 3 Pictus catfish and 2 small plecos. Is it a possibly that the babies are getting eaten when hatched??? Thanks

plecos might be the problem; they are notorious egg-eaters . . .

def. the plecos... you should sit and watch the next time they lay a set of eggs to see what happens...

i have heard of that but never thought they be a real problem because it seem like the eggs always last for 2-3 day and thats how long they should. But they just laid eggs last night so im going to take the plecos out and see what happens. Also i have undergravel plates but nothing hooked to(no air). Do you think those might be a problem???

*Overstocked, and yes they are probably eaten.

oh ok well i do see about 20 or more little fry wigging there tails very closely to a rock while the parents are guarding very closely. But my question now is there a way i can take some of the babies out and put them into another tank and grow them there where it is MUCH safer

You could siphon them into another tank. But, i would reccomend pulling them as eggs.

yeah surprisingly i woke up this morning to find a dead 3 inch JD.so that makes it a little less crowded but they will be moving to a 55 tomorrow
