i have a female and she laid eggs last night. i don't have a male so how long will the eggs last until i get one???

Probably not long at all. Doesn't really matter much though. As soon as you get a mate for her she'll lay some more.

Making babies is just about all cons care about. Really think about whether or not you actually want the fry before getting a male. Sab_Fan said it perfectly.

I would chalk this batch up as a loss. Be warned that if you do start breeding them a lot of pet shops won't give you anything for them (if they will take them at all) because of the ease at which they can be bred.
