Asked for people's opinions, and when you get them, you just say everybody is wrong. They are convicts.

No where did I say that people are WRONG...I'm not sure myself, but I don't think it's PURE. Thats all Im saying. Everyone is free to input any suggestions including myself. Convicts are so hybridized that there is a higher possibility of it being one. Thats why lowgrade ZZ aren't called Trimacs. There are many Trimac hybrids that look just like the real thing but careful observations will tell otherwise.

OK got more pics. Post pregnancy pics so she is looking good, trying to strut her stuff for the next suitor. I am still going with Convict x HRP...x Sajica for a sometimes single prominant black bar from black dorsal mark down to belly.

I have was looks to be a type of Crytoheros or even perhaps a hybrid. At the LFS she looked almost Sajica with a prominant single bar from dorsal down to belly. Breeding color is solid black lines and bellyhalf of body is all black (like Cyano, Texas cichlid)

I was going to comment on the lack of orange/red on her sides, there appear to be some scales there that have a faint trace of color but no where near what I have typically seen.

Doesn't look like a standard female BC to me but I'm just guessing.:)

AHA, here we are...adding to notes. Finally had time to search for Sajicas. Oh, and one more note "REAL" convicts wore black and white stripes, thus making the other species non-convict...but nowadays Midas are the real convicts, cuz "REAL" convicts wear orange nowadays...Hmmmm. Anyways compare:1st is Mine...... 2nd , 3rd are AWESOME pics I got from internet.

After seeing those pics of Sajicas I wish I could find some around here. I was happy finding a nice male and female pink convict pair at my LFS but now the search is on for Sajicas

They are just a very good line of Black Convicts. I raised Black Convicts years ago, had WC breeders. I would have all different colors on fins and some on body....most people didn't believe they were black convicts, but they were!!!! No crossbreeding.

I later got into pure Rio Danli Honduran Red Points - and still breed them; got lucky and some carried the leucistic gene, so now I also have "Pearls".

Oops my post got cut off.

Anyway, IMO your fish are black convicts. They will get very colorful fins when breeding. The one could have some Cutteri cross, would need more pics to tell. I have bred WC blacks that had unbelievable colorings and were 100% black convict. I now breed all lines of Cryptos.

THe blacks have been crossed with HRP and marketed as "blue convicts". The lines get polluted.

See the pic of that one with the colored fins and BLUE eyes???? The blue eyes are indicitive of HRP - not black convicts. That is clearly a hybrid.

True HRP will have lots of coloring in their body as well as fins. blue eyes, and very rounded sloped face. They are very shy and timid fish, not like the black convicts at all. They will also form a close family colony. Their personalities will tell the tale ! My laptop is about to crash or I would post a bunch of pics to help you sort it out.
