just got a new pair of cons 3 weeks ago. male is 3" and female is 2.5". introduced them to my 30g long (only fish in the tank) and everything was going fine. they spawned about a week and a half ago, eggs hatched. they both were taking care of the fry like i would expected. then all of a sudden my male freaked out yesturday and wont let the female near the now free swimming fry. what the hell is that all about. the female is chilling in a corner near the top of the tank. once in awhile the male guns for her and almost makes her jump out!!!
how can i make them kiss and make up?

thanx in advance

I'm sorta of in the same boat.....My 30 currently has a pair of cons gaurding 9 day old fry and a single male convict......To accomadate the trio safely, I simply placed a clear piece of plexi in the middle.....
In your situation, a clear piece divider will allow the pair to see each other without any harm.....If the male shows any signs of acceptance, remove the divider...When the fry are gone, 99% chance the male WILL accept her back.....
Good luck.....

yep, they will fight on and off. best bet is to make/buy a divider to seperate them if things start to get outta hand. you'll most likely recognize when its all clear to remove the divider just from their behaviour. good luck

Add some dithers. It gives them a common enemy and helps keep the pair bond strong. Otherwise, one convict will drive off or possibly kill their former spouse. I use tiger barbs as dithers. The convicts don't have to be able to actually attack the dithers but they do need to see them. So, if you are worried about the dither fish being killed partition them off with a clear divider.

:iagree: and add some more hiding spaces :) she needs somewhere he can't see her.. To hide.. You should need a partition :) Just more hiding spaces..

target fish for breeding cons in a 30 will likely get owned or ignored.
dithers are to draw out shy fish.
