Water is all fine...

He is with the big boys, but... his female who is smaller than him is happily swimming around with everyone.

He does swim around from time to time - but 95% of the time he just lingers around there.

Are you sure he isn't being bullied?

I do have a 14g set up which is supposed to be for breed but is right now nursing a JD who got beaten up before who will be given to my LFS this weekend. Would it be better to place the cons in there till they gain some size?
sounds like a very good plan.

if poss i would take him out for a bit til hes got a bit of weight and restored ego ! sometimes it doesnt even have to be physical, the O's could be seriously intimidating him and the bubbles are his safe spot as it breaks up the outline of the fish so others cant see him as easily ! sounds like he needs a break :)

Alrighty then...

Looks like he'll be sharing a tank with a damaged JD till I get her to the LFS.

I thought by getting him a female then he'd gain some confidence... Might try making a few more tiny caves tonight and see if that makes a difference...if not tomorrow he'll go into the 14g.

He is not comfortable in his environment. Try to setup hiding places and if this doesn't work he needs a new home. Might be able to hold his own. Some convicts are pretty aggressive!:headbang2

Indeed :)

I'll keep you all posted... and thanks for the input. Just really want them to be happy!

Good idea, keep us posted on how things go?!

Little male con has ben moved, now he is in total hiding just in a different tank. He's in there with a JD who has shown no interest in him what so ever.

The strange thing is that I decided to leave the female in the 120 as she seemed quite confident and not at all shy, but suddenly in the last hours she has taken on his bahaviour. While he was in the main tank she paid no attention to him at all. The good thing is that now its a spot where they are easy to get to ;)

Think I'm going to move her into the mini tank as well.

Goodness! This does not all seem to be going as well as I had hoped :(
