Hey yall. I just bought a male black and female pink convict for my 25 gal. Right now they're with a few swords and 3 cory cats. I was wondering if i took those other fish out what else i could replace them with. I know some people say keep a breeding pair alone but I also read having target fish can strengthen they're bond. This is why I'm thinking of adding a few fish in there ,especially since the cons havent paired up yet.
Thanks

You generally don't need to do much to get a male and female Con to pair up and breed. Actually, they tend to breed more than most would like. If you just purchased them, they are probably still getting acclimated to their tank. Give them a little more time. It sounds like the current tankmates are okay. You would only be removing one kind of schooling fish for another. I would leave things as they are.

I'e only ever kept one breeding pair of Cons and they were in a 29 gal. They tolerated nothing in their tank...the only thing that survived was a bristlenose pleco for about a week, but he beat pretty bad by the male before I got him out and into another tank. Happy to say he's still going strong :). Just watch them once they finally do breed (which they will...constantly).

Plecos and tiger barbs. Honestly though the setup you have is good minus the cories. Swords are ca fish and they breed and the fry will be greedily eaten by the cons and get them into breeding condition.

ok. I appreciate the quick repsonses. Do you guys think that the tiger barbs would fair just as awell as the swords though? I've had the swords for a while and I'm kind of bored of them. Plus I've always wanted tiger barbs :P

I'd fitch the swords and cories, and get some Giant Danios, and some Bristlenose..

I can't see keeping a school of Giant Danios in a 25 gallon tank with a breeding pair of Cons. GDs get too big. I would switch to Tiger Barbs if anything.

I have a breeding pair in a 29g and they have killed everything in their tank.

I suggest water as being their tank mates.. (no pun intended lol) They will kill EvERYTHING once they start breeding.

Just a random thing, Did a Canadian just say "ya'll"? LOL
