How do you tell the diff between a male bp and female

male bp have pointed tubes near the vent... females have a rounder tube and rounder overall appearance... Some males during breeding mode display pink near the gill plates...

Honestly have never heard that before.

You cannot go by fins, the only way to know if you are getting a female when it comes to blood parrots is to either vent or to have seen it lay eggs.

So where exactly is the vent? My last bp I got
Lucky with I had a male and female (u could tell) but the male was sterile

Venting is when you turn the fish upside down to look at the breeding tube. Google "venting cichlids"

look at the bottom opening which is the vent, between the anus and the anal fin.. If it is a female it will be "O" shaped. If it is male it will be triangular like this "V".

hmm this will be fun at the LFS but how do I which the anus and the vent ? I have a feeling I'll get confused I couldn't find any pics

Anus is closest to the front and breeding near the back.
