my noob friend bought one today thinking it was a true JD. *facepalm*. what are these things like and what can i tell him to expect. from google they look gross and look like they have many health issues.

Where did you get the 'look like they have many health issues'? XD They look fine to me.
Anyways, treat it like an in between of a Jack Dempsey and a Convict.
It won't be (i.e. temperament, maximum size, body shape, etc. etc.), but it's a nice approximation to start out with.
What size is it? Also any pics?

I googled pics of the fish and found quite of few with brown stuff on their face and many of them including my friends had clamped fins. Just I guess. I don't really know what you mean though by treating it between a JD and a con. Its in a 29 with a sun cat. I don't have pics worth posting.

Please explain. The two pics look identical. It's to rounded and to light to be a JD. The fish in the pic I posted is over an inch long. Close to 1.5". It looks just like the pic paw posted which is a conxdempsey hybrid.
