convict x jack dempsey cross?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Please explain. The two pics look identical. It's to rounded and to light to be a JD. The fish in the pic I posted is over an inch long. Close to 1.5". It looks just like the pic paw posted which is a conxdempsey hybrid.

I agree! I think it's a conjack x. No point in debating it though. Hope Your bud is able to grow it out. That will verify it for sure.

This was my 1.3" female jack Dempsey over pure white aquarium sand. It looks nothing like my friends fish. pure JD's are more elongated and have that sort-of concave nose bride where convicts are very round. i've never seen a pure JD that looked like this. and my friend said every fish in the tank looked like this so i bet somebody accidentally bred a JD and a Convict in their aquarium and gave the juveniles to the pet shop owner. where he just labelled them jack Dempsey just because they had spangles.

I honestly doubt that is the case. Jack Dempseys have such poor genetics that you see odd ones commonly. There are more factors that affect color than just surroundings like stress, water conditions, and gender. Most short bodies aren't hybrids, its a genetic deformity.

It's a jack my friend. Please stop with the hybrid stuff. I've seen plenty jacks with weird shapes and other deformations. If it was bought as a jack treat as such until proven otherwise.

You should treat it like a JD with stripes.

Honestly it looks like the typical washed out lfs JD to me, I'm not seeing convict at all. Most con hybrids I've seen get those beedy convict eyes, this fish doesn't have that. Oh well, grow the little fellow out and see.
