i have 5 baby convicts and 1 baby pink con.. right now they are in a 5 gallon grow tank, but i'd like to move them into my 30 gallon severum tank to get even larger before they go to their final home in my flowerhorn tank.. anywho, is there a possibility of the convicts breeding with the severums? i think a pink con x severum might look interesting, but i dont really want to breed them on purpose, just keep the cons in there until they hit the 2 1/2 or 3 inch mark, or big enough that they can't fit in my oscars mouth.. there are currently 3 unsexed turquiose severums in the tank, ranging from 3-4 inches.

on thing i would be concerned with is the quantity of the convicts you got. usually when hybrids happen in aquarium conditions is because the fish don't have the proper mate and therefor looks for one outside its species. being you have 6 convicts they will breed to each other way before they try to court a sev. also convicts will breed at very young ages. i've seen them get busy at 1inch before. so if you really want to try a sev X convict cross i would have to recommend putting 1 convict of the opposite sex of the severum into the tank. even then i cannot garentee you success. becasue as cichlidmasterpro said we have tried several times to cross out a sev and it just hasn't happened.
i was looking really close at my severums, i think ihave a 2 males and a female, or maybe the smallest one ( think female) is just not a developed male yet, because there is no breeding behavior or territorial battles at all. just going on finnage here...if the pink convict turns out female, i may keep her in the severum tank... its in my living room and i see it more often anyway so i'd get to enjoy it more...but the other 5 are definately going into the big boy tank. the largest 4 convicts are about an inch now, maybe a smidge bigger.. i put everyone into the sev. tank last night, and i swear they are already bigger.
