My convict pair were in my 200g and were literally breeding every 5 mins which led to all my other fish getting a bit beaten up so eventually i decided to move them into their own 20g tank with the plan of using the fry as feeders. since they've been in there they no longer seem to be a happy couple the male seems quite hostile to the female and now she spends most of her time hiding behind the filter. they have only been in the new tank for a week do you think they will come round after a while or have they split up?
to get the obvious questions out the way the tank/filter is fully cycled the water was also taken from the other tank and all water parameters are fine the fish are also eating normally. Am i worrying over nothing?

It's only been a week so they may need a few more days to settle in. Maybe they need a few dithers to tighten their bond. Add a few tetras if things don't turn around for the pair in a few days. A water change works sometimes too.

there's no guarantee they'll pair back up. how big are they? they've been used to having all the space they could want in the 200 gallon and now they're in a much, much more confined space. I'd keep a close eye on them because chances are either they're going to pair back up or one will wind up killing the other.

if need be one can always go back in the big tank hope they re-pair

This same thing happened to me with all three of my pairs of convicts when I tried it. Put them all in the 125 gallon and all the pairs rebonded (Regularly breeding). Baby convicts really bring out the red in tinfoil barb fins, lol! There are enough animals in there that no one really gets picked on, and by throwing in 2 of those barnacle colony shells, they use a much smaller breeding area. The Blood Parrots and the Green Severums keep them in check, and usually no eggs survive because of the Synodontis. The group of giant danios makes an excellent distraction for the Syno to slip into the nest and gobble down all the eggs...
