Can they get along well in a 45 lt tank? I am planning to get a pair of each. In case of breeding i might consider a larger tank. Thx all ;)

You never know but I think it might work if you would setup hiding/breeding spots on opposite sides of the tanks. You must understand that you might end up with a nutty Convict pair that will set out to kill everything in the tank!

A 45 liter tank? I'm guessing that's about 15 gallons.
A tank that size is barely enough for the convict pair, much less other fish. If you add them all and the cons breed you'll most likely lose the firemouths.

Yeah i hate small tanks too but it is for my brother as starter. For now i am adding one M and two F convicts then i will be watching the situation and decide if i can add any non-convict.

I wouldn't do it, if you want to start your brother out on fish start him out on something smaller. Male convicts get around 6", females 4" and firemouths also between 4-6". That's far to large. Plus, you have to add the bioload of any fry to produce, and that's if they don't kill eatchother first.

I have convicts and firemouths together. But in a 45gal tank. For future reference, if you're going to have different species of different degrees of aggresiveness, add the lesser first so they can already have their territory staked out.Thats what I did(I have a Tex cichlid that went in last) and so far everything is cool.Whatever you do, good luck.

don't do it!! get a bigger tank!! sheesh!! :swear:

i would say u need a bigger tank, it might work if u wanna give it a try
