Convicts & Firemouths

Get something smaller like Guppies or Neon Tetras.. If you want convicts then get a female. One female.

ya then u could breed them and have babys
 
I have a lot of strange mixes of Cichlids together peacfully, my jack Dempseys and Cons I added at the same time and they have grown together, It sometomes seems to be how they are added they with who...
 
maybe a female con for a 15g could work longterm. anything more than a breeding pair of cons will probably not work well at all and even they would need an upgrade after a couple of months.

they won't get that big if they are breeding. they do get 6 inches for each species but that's in a large tank(ie. plenty of water changes for small tanks) or in a non-breeding situation. energy for growth is diverted to breeding & defending the brood. I agree though one male of either species will fill that tank. actually only rams or the lamprologus (african) shelldwellers will fit as a pr. as they stay about 3 inches.
 
The smallest I would recommend a pair of cons in is a 20L. I had cons and firemouths in a 55 together (with plenty of hiding spots, wood, pots, rocks, etc) and the cons kept the firemouths confined to about 6" on one side of the tank.
