yeah bud,

35 is roomy for a pair of cons and their kin. you will be fine.

Go to your LFS and look in the cons tanks. I went to petsmart and seen they had a breeding pair. I got both for $15 and they were a gaurunteed pair.

35 gallon is plenty of space. If you want to breed, just grab a male and female that are at least 2". You will have a 95% chance of them breeding. Convicts were my first cichlids and I bred my first pair when I was 7 years old in a 30 gallon. I only had the cons for like 1 week.

fo the fry grow quickly? what temp should you keep the tank at? dark substrate?

These fish are pretty hardy....undemanding requirements...

Just keep the temp normal temp like in the 70's and the gravel doesn't matter, whatever you like. They'll be just as happy.

I always liked to make a house or cave for them to spawn in, but if you have a peice of shale or flat rock, that would be nice too.
