My convicts have bred (no surprise here) and I will soon have an excess of fish. Can they live in an unheated, outdoor pond? I live in San Diego, Ca.

i would think so, be aware of predators idk what typ of stuff lives in ca i would put a predator in there to keep there numbers down a lil bit maybe a lmb

We have what most states have in terms of terrestrial predators; skunks, racoons, possums and birds like egrets, hawks, herons.

More concerned about water temps. How low of a temp can they handle?

ive seen them in a spring but the lowest that water gets proly 70 degrees if that

i think they would be ok and if they die im sure youll get a couple hundred more in a few days

Temps in my part of San Diego have dropped in the low 30s. These low temps will last for a couple of months in the evenings and day time temps will avg in the upper 50s to low 60s. Am I pushing my luck and killing the cons?

id say the fish would be able to atleast handle 72f they may not be particularily active but i dont think it would do much damage to them

I doubt they will make it in those conditions, they are a tropical fish that LOVE the low 80's. I'm guessing the water temp would be in the 50's, probably on the lower end.
