cons are pretty tough.
you mioght could try Texas cichlids. i know of a small population in el paso that survives the winter.

sNAKeDoG, my concern with having to take them out is that my pond is going to be 550g measuring 8' long 6' wide and 1.5' deep. Thats a lot of area for a convict to hide. So i dont know if i can catch all of them.
it would be tuff you might have to go swimming with a snorkel and mask

I live in San Diego CA so it doesn't get very cold in winter down here
ive heard of Florida people keeping Cichlid ponds but it might be warmer there
you could use a swimming pool heater or one for a hot tub
maybe also cover it with some kind of greenhouse in winter
and making it deeper can keep it below freezing level

Just give it a try and if you lose them they will be easy and cost free to replace. You could try and recreate the conditions in your tank and see what happens.
