Two nights ago I was up until 2AM setting up a tank for my pink convict. He was in a tank with two regular adult convicts, and two smaller convicts. He was by far the alpha convict. For a few weeks he would keep the other four in hiding.

Then I noticed he was laying on his side in the corner behind a decoration hyperventalating. I tried bloodworm and he was totally unresponsive. The small guys ate the bloodworms and then the other two adults spotted him and started attacking him. He tried to hold his own, but he could not fight two convicts and I didn't want him to get hurt.

Now the adults have been chasing the younger guys from a skull decoration but have been pretty tolerant of them. After about two days of guarding the decoration I took a look inside, and I see eggs.

All I have to say is wow.

These two convicts absolutely terrorizing the convict who used to keep a JD that was twice as big in hiding.

Now that they're paired, until old age slows them down and they lose their spunk. They will lay more eggs as soon as, or before, their current batch moves out of the cave.

My cons are breeding once every 3-4 weeks. They will spawn, eggs hatch and they raise them to about 2 weeks old. Then the mother either abandons them to be eaten or eats them herself. About a week later they spawn again.

Interestingly though, the fish most adept at picking off fry has been my lone platy. He'll hover out of site of the mom and when she goes to chase off another fish he swoops in to try and grab a fry.

The female convict did not like me looking at the eggs so she moved them somewhere else lol

I have a 75 gallon with just cons, I get fry every month. They just keep on going. But usually they get eaten by the other cons. But some made it.
