I tried this eventually the convicts overtook the tank . The pairs successfully defended their fry against all comers . Had to remove them manually . GL with your project !

careful...cons are crazy SOBs with fry and will defend them agents everything.

The only fish I have seen successfully take fry from convicts is a pack of about 12 danio fish..while some are getting beaten up the rest are snacking on the newly swimming fry.

good luck.

I agree .....breeding cons can get crazy aggressive. I have a buddy that got bit by a breeding pair of cons, and I personally have seen a pair thrown in a display tank at a lfs as feeders and they ended up tearing up the fins on all of the "monsters" in the tank. But I hope it works out for you.

I was starting to second guess it but when I got home from fishing last night I saw the orinos eye Balling the fry. You could tell the convicts were getting really upset. This morning there all gone so either the orinos killed them off through the night or the convicts went on a rampage, I'm not familiar with there behavior when fry are in trouble like that.

i know wot cons are like but surely with 8 bass they could quite easily swoop in and out and parents could not defend against all of them with the speed they use to take food

True that lol. I found some but they are definitely disappearing and it doesn't seem to affect the bass eating there massivore and food sticks. I'm gonna call it a success for now.

Just a little update on this. I haven't physically seen the bass eat the fry but there are officially all gone now. The little convicts are at it again though lol.

i tried this with my bass in my 180g the convicts got picked off. I have some old videos on here of it and on my youtube channel. One bass had a rather big convict stuck in his mouth. I eventually put some new convicts in the 75 gallon in the back with some baby bichirs. the convicts have bred about 5 times now.

Glad to hear it worked for someone else!
