i have a pair of convicts and was wondering why they both all of a sudden turned real dark almost black the male is darker than the female but the are both darker than normal is this normal or is somthing wrong?

ther either gettin ready to breed or have already laid eggs.

wohoo its about time iv been tring to get a pair to breed for 3 months now and my male kept killing them like 3 days after i put a female in with him finally he likes one of them

yea u got to remember that convicts are kinda like ppl in finding mates. if they dont like each other they will fight all the time. i went threw 2 males before i found a match.

i guess i got lucky with mine. first two i picked out where a male and female breeding pair. i will warn you though, i now have a 55 gallon filled with grown convict cichlids

lol that will happen they breed like rabbits. which is prolly y one of ther other names that i commonly hear is an should be rabbit cichlid.

my black convict pairs fought for 6 months and then paired up and bred every 3 months.
When they breed, their black stripe turn darker, the white stripe turn brighter, and fins turn greenish-blue.

ok well i dont see any eggs yet unless they laid them on the gravel and i cant see them so ill keep lookin thanks everyone
