Little Rock
I just received a three inch male convict that my sister was caring for in a three gallon hextank full of brown water. She was going to flush the little guy so i took him in. I have three tanks. No tank i have is under 100 gallons or could take a fish that small.

I placed the guy in the only aquarium i have room for, a ten gallon. Its heavily decorated and ive added a good amount of rocks and hiding spots, brown gravel. For filtration im using two HOB filters that power 35 gallons. Temp79f, ph7.5 and the tank is cycled.

Im already concered the tank may be to small for the one fish, if i wanted to try breeding would i have room for a female?

no..a 10g is ok for one, but for breeding minimum would be a 20 long.

So if i introduced a related sized female and even assured tons of rocks, plants and decor to hide the setup wouldnt last till the fry are free swimming? I could do an upgrade after.

Id like to start this for a breeding project to use as feeders for the "monsters" ;)

they will breed in it but if ur using the fry to feed a "monster" theyll never get big enough in such a cramped tank to become what ur looking for. cons also grow slow. take 6 months to have size worth feeding

I had a 2"ish pair that I kept in a 10 gal. they bred once, but a week later he killed Mom. Your 10 gal should be fine.

i dont think ten gallon is big enough for one convict, definitely not big enough to breed them...

It may not be ideal but many members here have done it or do it! Some keep cons soley to produce feeders for their other fish!
