convits 10g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
only 1"? they'd be fine in the 10gal. jus put enough rocks to keep them hiding. my cons are in a 100gal but only use about 10-15gals of space of the tank. they never go anywhere else in the tank. and i will be removing them into the 10gal very very soon so ill let u know how that works out.

Not once they start breeding. One will become too aggressive and kill the other. Usually the male depending on size difference.

That is not true!! Convicts parent together after a while you may need to remove The male or the Frye, as the male will want to kill the Frye so he can mate again with the female...

However you would be better off with a 20 or 30...

I would leave the pair where they are. Two weeks after they spawn, remove 70-80% of the fry with a siphon tube. You will want to leave the remaining fry to keep the parents from breeding again quickly. The cons are small the rest of the fish you have will survive O.K. You will need a larger tank than 10 gallons to grow out the fry. A 29 gallon would be fine, keep the temp at 82 degrees, change water 50% once a week, and feed 3 times a day and you fry will reach the 1/2 to 3/4 inch range in about 2-3 months.

If your third con is a female your male may go back and forth and breed with both of them

ive had mine breed about 3 times in my 10 but they are also only a lil bigger than a inch as well.but I havent had any fighting at all.

10g cant house a healthy pair of Convicts for life.

Best way to keep fish...

1. Buy tank
2. Buy fish that can live in that tank for life

Worst way to keep fish...

1. Buy fish
2. Put them in small tank and say you'll get a bigger tank later

Did I say no grow-outs allowed? :screwy:

It's better to have a tank you can hold your fish in for life because sometimes &^%$ happens. I've seen so many people buy fish that get too big for their tank then they move or get a girlfriend or lose their job and cant get a new tank. If you cant afford a tank big enough for the fish when you buy them then why not just wait till you can afford it?

It makes no sense to buy your fish first then the right sized tank. :screwy:
