the dwarf giraffe will uproot your stuff, but the guttus which is the one you want wont, it's temperment is, alot different

Thanks for the clarification! I'd love a Bagarius bagarius and a P. guttus! But the bagarius is being difficult to find.

Chugger: You sir are correct, I did a little more research just now. My bad, here is the correct info:

pH 6.4 - 8.0
Temperature 22.0-27.0°C or 71.6-80.6°F
Prefers soft, mildly acid to neutral (pH 6.5-7.2) water, but can usually be maintained in mildly alkaline systems up to pH 8.0

As far as the bagarius, it has big teeth and a big appetite I don't think your other fish would be safe, they are hard to find but so are giraffe catfish depending on where you live I guess. I don't think you'll find many other people keeping bagarius with lots of tankmates unless its short term/for sale at the store. They can tolerate the warmer water if acclimated to it to a point but would probably prefer cooler temps similar to their native habitat much like the chinese high fin sharks can take heat but do better in cooler temps. Again sorry for the incorrect info in my other post, good luck with your tank though either one would be cool. ~Trent

Remember, we are talking about the Bagarius bagarius species NOT the Bagarius suchus or Bagarius yarrelli species. Most of B. bagarius owners I've met online have all said that it is a VERY mellow fish that tolerates others and hardly ever moves. It is also a slow grower which is a plus. It would be a GREAT bottom dweller cat for my oddball tank. I've been at my wit's end trying to find one, but I can't :(

I hope to stop by Shark Aquarium this weekend and take a look at Para. guttatus if there are any left.

hey does anyone else have a mean ass pleco, i have a regular cheap pleco, who gets into fight with everything in my tank ,i swear it's true.

some can get agressive and territorial when older, happens all the time. usually defending territory, but occasionally if they are not getting enough meat, they will start sucking the slime coat off other fish (which is often mistaken/looks like fighting)

ill agree with all that, thats why i don't keep a pleco in any of my tanks with fish above 6 or7 inches the plecos just get to territorial. so unfortunately i just clean the glass by hand
