Cool fish for 125g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just those two is the "max bio load" for a 125? Like I get it's likely not the limit, but is it that much for a 125?

I'm not arguing by any means, really just asking.

I would say yes.
They both have growing to do still too.

Adding a 3rd 11" oscar body type fish would put it way over the top. You would have to do 2 fin level changes in a week to keep nitrates below 20ppm when adding the 3rd fish. Unless, maybe you only feed moderately once a week.

Holy cow it would be that bad? I guess it might be best to avoid it then. I only get to do 1 wc a week (sometimes every 2 weeks due to work), with the bio load you're talking about I'd basically end up poisoning my fish.

Sad reality :'(

Best way to tell is to monitor your nitrates between WC. If they are getting high before the weekly change you will know adding to the load will not be possible. Seems weird but watch this video. Not a fan of the YouTuber but the video does have a point of interest. I imagine the fish they are catching are similar to what you are putting into the 125. Look at the video around the 6 min mark. I was surprised to see a fish peeing that much. In your case multiply that times 3 plus add feedings and solid waste over the course of the week. It is not surprising that water quality can degrade fast in a closed system
