it always does. lol i have grown out alot of umbee and sofar all female except 1. but everyone said it was a female so i sold it and it ended up being a male. some lucky sob got a 6"male umbee for $15!!! man what a kick in the balls. so here i am 3 years later still trying for a male. man thats depressing!!!
 
ah that sucks man. they can be late bloomers but at 6" you should be able to tell if it's a male or female. any chance you got some pics of that umbee people thought was a female?

here are some pics that the guy who bought him off me took afew months after i sold him. he did not have much blue on him when i sold him and his fins were sounded not pointy or elongated, infact they still are not pointy in these pics. he is like 8" in the pics.

thanks for sharing the pics mate. well i guess i'll just have to wait and see if mine turns out to be a male or female. they're such slow growers though i'm getting impatient lol
 
umbee's grow pretty fast. i have mine in a 120 with 2 5" oscars,7" giant gourami, 3.5" male rtm, and a gigas pleco. the umbee is always first to get some food. i know i cannot keep the umbee or the RTM in with them for long but for now he has to compete for food so he tends to just eat as much as he can and it helps them grow faster when they have to compete IMO.
 
mine is never short on food nor water changesm, but it is growing, just slowly. when i put my last female umbee from my 6 x 1.5' into my 7 x 2' i swear she grew like an inch in 3 weeks, but then slowed down again. dunno maybe it seems like it's growing slow because i'm always looking at it lol

what do you reckon mine is?
