Cool Trick For Oil Slick

^ I'll have to remember that, at the moment i'm not running mine 24/7... only planning on running it between my 50G and 60G tank when necessary, although its only mainly my 60G that seems to have problems which i guess is due in part to the frozen bloodworms i feed... my other tanks don't seem to have any of these problems so go figure?

But anyway, is that sponge special in any way? coz otherwise, i take it you could probably just cut any sponge to size and use it as a replacement as long as its porous enough not to slow the flow too much?

It's not like extremely noticeable, I mean it still works. But I was getting a bad smell out of mine, but it's also because I got lazy and was trying to feed flakes to these fish that wouldn't eat pellets and it was all getting drawn into the skimmer. After about 3 weeks of constant use is when I opened it and the sponge was all gunked up which I guess is comparable to some hang on backs. As far as replacing the sponge, that's exactly what I did. I had a box of aquaclear foam sponges and just cut one to fit and it worked out fine.

You can just rinse it and reuse, I clean my pre-filter mechanical every 3 days so I just clean it too. I'm running it 24/7 :D
