Copepods and brownbanded sharks ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depending on what species of copepod, some are very bad parasites - to the point they will kill the host animal. I've lost rays to a couple of species of copepods.

If they are one of the parasitic species, there are ways to kill them without much stress to the shark.

They should not be a problem in your tank unless they are attaching to your shark. I have copepods in my 210 with a gray bamboo shark and they have not attached to him at all. If one attaches every once in a while, you can just pull them off with a tweezers. Otherwise, if they attach too often you will have to get a fish that eats him, but won't get eaten. Shrimps are a no go because the shark will eat them. I would be careful in what you choose fish wise because the shark will eat them in the night if he can. Sharks are slow however and if the fish has places to hide in the rock you should be fine.
