Copepods?

It might help survivability scaping with some ohko stone, lava rock, live rock or similar they can colonize and keep safe from...well, everything.

I was always under the impression lots of different microorganisms got into my tanks anyway through added bogwood or plants, new fish, or even water changes. Maybe nothing large as copepods sneaking in though.

Looks like more like Daphnia than copepods

Yeah, those are daphnia, not copepods. I was meaning kind of under the general umbrella of "Little water buggies"

A little, but not a lot, snails are about it. Sadly, freshwater is far more sterile and fewer interesting little hitch hikers than marine.
