where should the copper level be in my quarentine tank? right now i am at .50 and is that enough to take care of any parisites?

The ammount of "CHELATED" ;) copper to be used is all dependant on the size of the aquarium in use. Its very important to ensure that only the correct ammount of copper is used. If not enough is used, it will be in-effective, if too much is used it can be potentially dangerous to the inhabitants..

Follow strictly, the instructions given on the product you have chosen to use for this...

**Edit....What is it your treating for??

Mardel copperSafe says 5ml every 4 gallons and that gave me that reading of .50 on my test kit (API) I was told to set up my quarintene tank with that (copper) in it, trying to kill off any parisites

Well...Copper is good for treating fish, yes, however, i would not use copper and try to be pro-active...if it aint broke, dont fix it train of thought....

With new fish members, i recomend a FW dip or meth blue dip and then a 4 week quarantine period...I dont see a need to treat a fish for something if it does not have anything wrong with it....

Your levels of copper are fine...

The eel I bought Sat. is rubbing itself and twitching (rubbing his head) so I thought parisites. The meth blue is that the brand or product

I read a article online that was talking about coppers and they say that Coppersafe needs to be at 1.5-2.0 to be affective for at least 3 weeks. Is this a accurate instuction?

NONONONO!!!! waaayyyy to high!! copper is effective at .15-.20 (ppm?). anything higher than .20 starts to get dangerous for the fish. if your going to treat the eel, drop your salinity to 1.012ish and copper at .15-.20. it is best to get a test kit and test every morning and night, while dosing the proper amount to maintain the copper level. This combination will kill any parasites and the fish (eel) dont mind as long as the salinity is taken down slowly, maby over a week. also remember to do water changes regularly to remove any dead parasites and waste products.

I spent probably a half hour reading an article that said Coppersafe which is a chealeted copper needs to be at that level to be effective and that other copper treatments need to be at a lower level like 1.5 instead of 2.0 so here I go again getting 2 different ideas. Thanks but wont be dropping the salinity down, besides after a week the eel seems to have stoped itching and rubbing, atleast today it hasnt but maybe tomorrow he will start again! Oh yea, I do test for my levels.

Mardel Coppersafe in the tank reads 1.5-2.0 but actually has 0.3 of free copper and acording to them is " non toxic to fish at that level" because of the way they make it. I had it at .25 in the tank and it did absolutly no good as far as the itching and scratching. Now three days after raising it to their ( Mardel ) level the itching is slowing down and the breathing seem more regular. I think Coppersafe is a better copper treatment for novices like me because there is a greater margin of error on the dosage, acording to some articles
