Coral snake

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's part of MFK... not whining. We (as MFK) are monitered by wildlife officials (Federal and State) for posts just like this. The site can't support nor promote illegal activity. In FL you need to have a special permit to release animals (even native ones) back into the wild. There is a step by step process in order to do that. Even if it was collected legally, anything held more than 24 hours or is treated with anything falls under those laws. They are in place to protect the native wildlife down here.

Knowing chris, im sure he has his butt covered. This is a guy that doesnt take his HOTs or the law associated with them lightly

Guys, calm down. I have been instructed by FWC officers to go ahead and release any rescues that come to me. I work with a nussiance wildlife removal agency on the side too and my boss has all of the necessary permits and I am covered under him as well. As for releasing the a snake that was not eating, It was kept my quarantine area and was not exposed to any of my exotics. Also, Coral snakes are NOTORIOUS for not eating in captivity- it does not mean that there was anything wrong with the snake, it is just very difficult to replicate the conditions necessary for it to eat in captivity and their diet consists of things like ring neck snakes and 5 lined skins which are difficult for me to catch this time of year.

I appreciate you concerns but trust me, I have it covered and know what I am doing.

sorry chris but you got to watch what you say cause others seem to think they can do what you do as if they make the laws my problem is with clearwaterguy and others who seem to think that there actions effect nothing and noone.

It was a wild animal put back in the wild...

Chris, was that a baby? I found an Eastern Milksnake baby out in the yard during a snow thaw one time and had a similar experience with feeding...on the last day before I put it in the crawlspace to find itsef a safe place to sleep the winter away, I got it to eat raw scrambled egg. I ended up setting it free anyways though.

Beautiful snake.

I hope to get one some day, but I'm waiting until the FDA stops being a bunch of pricks and approves an antivenin for them; I don't want to even start to learning how to work with them until that situation is fixed! I mean, there's a working antivenin that's available in Mexico, but it costs way too much for it to be allowed in the U.S. because of how much the extensive FDA testing costs. After all, it's better to play it safe with these little guys since they pack a pretty big punch for such a small snake!

I would just ask for the Thai Red Cross AV if I were bit, it is not ideal but better than nothing.

Glad you cleared that up, but yes please be careful on how posts are wored. Many people reading don't know about permitting and the harm that can come from releasing animals.
