As the daughter of an exploration geologist, there are rocks of all sorts all over my childhood home. We have a large pile of core samples out in the yard and garage. I was wondering if anyone here has thought of using them as decor in an aquarium?

I kind of had the idea for an industrial sort of scape using them. And it'd be a nice tribute to my dad, who also got me into the hobby.

Obviously, proper cleaning and testing and maybe sealing with something if they're safe would have to be done. Just, you know, tossing the idea out there to see what ya'll think. I can get some pics tomorrow once there's daylight if anyone wants to see what they look like.

I think that sounds awesome

Most all of them seem to be about the same diameter, though different lengths. I dug a couple out now that there's more light. Pics below. They might make some nice hiding spots.

I think this is awesome. I used to do my tanks with fossils and I think about going back some times. Obviously be aware of chemistry implications depending on what you use. If I had access to those I would use them in tanks and for planter borders in the yard.
