I have had this anubias FOREVER (oldest plant for me, I kill duckweed and java moss)... I cut it into 3 pieces when I moved it to the 120 gallon about 5 months ago. It was 26" tall (roots not included) when I moved it over. I have never seen this corn looking flowering thing though. Can someone confirm the scientific name of the species I am keeping? Does this mean I need to cut back on the ferts? Since the plant seems happy should I continue to double dose?

I was fighting a horrible case of BB algae and since I've been double dosing ferts (thanks for the suggestion clockwork, it's working great) The anubias is finally starting to look good again. While we in here, any suggestions on how I can make this look better/promote more growth in height? I am a cichlid guy = total plant n00b..

The bottom two sections on the other side of the tank. You can see where the holes are in the leaves from the BBA.

I told you it was flowering last time I came over! Congrats man that's a special thing, spring must be in the air.

I believe it's Anubias barteri.

Well you were 100% correct. The BB issue is looking really good huh? How often do they flower? I have had this thing forever (3+ years?) and never seen this corn thing before. Any pics on what it is supposed to look like when it flowers?

That "corn thing" is the flower!

BBA is looking a lot better. They don't flower very often...

If it's flowering, doesn't that mean the plants are doing good? Should I keep double dosing the flourish or cut back when all the BBA is gone? It pretty much is for the most part..

Yes, I would assume that means it's happy. I would keep dosing for a while, that BBA is just waiting to spring back IME...

Bleach solution dip that bad boy. The BBA will be gone, and you won't have any problems. 1:19 bleach:water solution, for 3-4 minutes. That is a flower, occur more often in tanks with several anubias. Mine bloom year round, but have more blooms during the spring. You look to be lacking in macro nutrients, or have some snails. What are your NPK levels?

And it works? I'll have to add that tip to my advice box!

Cool cornflower!

Just for clarification (I forget this is a public thread) Justin is double dosing Excel for the BBA.

Honestly I don't know what macro nutrients are. I am double dosing Flourish, not Excel. That was the original bottle you gave me and what I replaced it with. It is kicking butt at killing the BBA. 3 weeks ago there was no green on this plant at all, solid BBA. Same with the 3DBG. Now it is all but gone. This is going to sound really stupid but how do I test for NPK levels?
