Im considering jumping into the reptile field! We have baby corn snakes at my work (Less than a foot) just wondering what i'd need and whatnot. I've never kept any reppies so im a noob.

-10 gallon tank
-screen top
-under tank heater
-medium water bowl
-aspen snake bedding
-some sort of a hide (coco hut should work)
-basking light if needed

Just use a heat pad for heat. I would recommend a 55g tank so the snake can strech out and climb if given branches.

I figured i needed like a 40 gal....What specific lighting needs do they have?

40 gal but like others have said 55 or 40 gal breeder are better but min 40 gal.

If there is one snake that sadly winds up in small enclosures without climbing branches which they love is the corn snake.

Given the chance they are active and enjoy the room. I wont even keep my kings which are smaller in less than 55 or similiar and they use it.

10 gal for baby is fine add branches they love to climb but they outgrow a 10 easily.

I like COBRA heat pads much better than zoo-med but in a big tank like 55 or 40 you can use spotlight (reptile black/red bulb) over one end of screen if room is cool.
In small tank you can't do that as bulb will heat up whole tank and you need a cooler area but they are easy and great snakes.

Heat pad on one side works great and put hide area over it .

10 gal for juvie state or life?
its a baby right? i'd put it in a 10g if it is. then move up from that

Thanks guys! Yea its a super juvie. I just wanna get one coz i know all about dogs, cats, small animals, fish and birds at my store i just dont know jack bout reptiles. And they seem to me as something u need to keep (like fish) to really be able to know about. Dont get me wrong i understand reptiles well enough to help customers at my store but i feel i should learn more (specifically with snakes). From what ive read and learned reptiles in general are better to be kept in a tank geared to their size, unlike fish which its better to put them into a tank for them to grow into. Would a corn snake be the best starter snake for someone like me? Thanks for all the info.
