what is the optimum water temp for most tropical fish. almost all the literature i have read on this subject gives different answers.some books say 75 degrees ,some say upper 70,s ,some say lower 80s. whats the deal? i have a 75 gal with several african cichlids and a 29 gal with cory cats, dwarf gouramis and a betta

78-80

80 deg's is the optimal temp colder preference speices will adapt as the ones that prefer it a touch warmer i try never to let my communitys get above 82deg's

yep 78-80... 78 use to be the #1 temp at 80 your fish are more active and you will hace less of a chance at any parasites infecting them

I also keep my tropicals at 78-80 deg. Celsius. They die very quickly but there are no parasites! Maybe I should buy a thermometer that reads in Fahrenheit!
