did she get it caught in the wire? maybe get it checked by a vet. is it causing discomfort?
just wondering do you have a male. they look nice, i miss them.
they would be useful if you keep egg eating snake species too

Nope the wires too big for her leg to get stuck. Doesn't seem to hurt her. You can touch it and stuff and she doesn't care.
Yep male/femle. We had to seperate them as the male kept molesting her. CONSTANTLY (tearing out feathers too.)
Egg eating snake. =) Thats EXACTLY what I wanted to do. Dad won't let me have snakes. =(

that sucks. when i get quails again, thats what i'll be getting along with them lol. yea i asked because the first picture some of the feathers look a bit scraggled which can happen when a male is constantly mating. you could get more females in with them, to spead the humping activities out, if you have the room. how "tame" are your birds?

I agree we keep about 2 males and 6 females.

The scraggly featered ones the male. He's just puffed up. ^^ I would get more females but I don't think were really supposed to hae these guys. Concidered "farm animals". =( So we pu a divider in instead. ^^ And their tame. =)

Are you sure....? I thought they were just an exotic bird like a parrokeet or finch. Anyways nobody will say anything to you unless maybe you live in an apartment. But if you already have a male and a female what will one more female make a difference? Right?:naughty:

I wish.....theres two problem though. First I can only get THE fetilized EGGS not the birds themselfs...and my parents arn't gonna go for another......At least unless the aviarys up and we KNOW it's a female. Males scream.

I have experience with poultry. I would call it vast. it looks to me that the strain of coturnix that you are using is of egyptian descent; this is a pretty hardy bunch-o-quail. Your main problem with an outdoor aviary will be rats and damp, in that order. The basic aviary for your 2:6 flock should be about 20 feet. However, these are non-fliers*, so each level only needs to be 18 inches or so. This means that you can stack levels, two or three high with ramps, and these heavy-bodied birds will use the upper levels just like another piece of ground. You can also skimp and make something like a 3X5 if you're pinched for space and they get plenty of food. Basic construction-should be fairly sturdy to keep out cats and branches. Your biggest construction problemis the roof. As I said, coturnix are sensitive to damp. While most chiken coops can have a leak or five, and can get cold and humid, coturnix cannot. They have a different type of feather oil that causes water to collect on their bodies and turn into scraggly bits of chilled bird. You should use a peaked roof that is completely watertight. Also, keep water absorbers such as hay or mildew remover in the coop so that the air stays nice and dry. You can also invest in a space heater if you notice any dampness. The heater will help your quail dry off a little faster. Second worry is rats. Coturnix are fat and slow, for birds. Rats love them, especially chicks. And, if you have garter or rat snakes, they might eat chicks or juveniles. Your best bet is to use fine mesh and to bury it at least 10" deep or as far as you can go. If you want to get fancy, you can pour cement. If you have any questions for me, I welcome them, but the people reading this post are probably bored enough already, so PM me.

ive had quite afew cutornix and there pretty cool birds, first if you put them out side you shoudent keep them on the ground you said you have them in a rabbit hutch how big? i kept 1:3-4 in a 2'X4'X2' they dont need mutch space realy, secont you should use a wire mesh floor(1/2")sence they are usualy quite messy birds and if they walk in there dropping to long they get balls of it on there toes witch can leed to the toe breaking off(ive had it happen twice) dont keep TWO males together sence they usualy will kill each other over females(also had that happen), if you want to breed them you will need an incubater sence they wont sit on there eggs, keep at least 3 females per male but even then they usualy have at least some of there head feathers riped out,and from my experiance they certinley dont live 10 years or even 5 your lucky to get 3 at the most(some of mine would start slowing down at 1.5)the females tend to age quicker sence they produse a lot of eggs(feed them grit and mabie a calcium supplemnt to help or they might eat there eggs)
