live sand is not worth the price for what you get think this way dry aragonite will become live within 2 months from the organism's from your live rock so save on the sand and buy better equipment for the longevity of the system

should I buy dry sand place it in a ten gal tank with some of the sand I have now to seed it then make the switch in a few weeks?

that be fine you could also just do the dry and use the live rock to seed the tank
