Cost of an apurensis jelly catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A shop in my area has one and I was thinking about getting it but I have enough catfish that hide most of the time.

Awesome lookin' beast! I initially would've of guessed Fowleri because of the high orange in his color but the face does look more squat and round so it looks like it is just a sweet colored Apu.

I've always liked the look of these cats, are they active at all?
I guess their personalities differ greatly between individuals as I've had the opposite experience as bezza. I had an Apu who used to cruise the tank about three times a day besides the begging position bezza descibed his doing. Then again maybe it's also a size and age thing as my last Apu only got to a little over 12 inches before being killed by a Marble Motoro. At that size he was a pain as when he cruised he wouldn't deviate from his path and would uproot fake plants and knock over rock if they where in his way, quite aggressively too; biting and snapping all the way. The same behavior is present in my current Apu who I had since 3 inches, he slowly but aggressively patrols the tank; again biting and violently pushing decor out of his way. I also had the unfortunate luck that both my Apu's where highly predatory versus bezza's more easy going individual. So far despite being handfed silver sides the 3 inch Apu still has managed to take out 6 other fish as snacks.

My $0.02 is that the OP will be lucky to find a right new home for it.

It is possible someone will give you an ok amount for it if you are really, really lucky. For such a fish, an LFS here in the US would ask ~$100-$150 or more, if the fish is not causing problems with housing. But then LFSs usually don't care or don't have to care where the fish goes into. Someone may stuff it in a 55 gal or 100 gal.
