My husband does a lot of our plumbing.. and we do a lot of diy tank stuff as well... but some things we do have a certified plumber come in.. I agree though in cutting Lowes out and shopping around for plumbers to do the install. It's almost always cheaper to do your own research and find a good plumber ect then go threw a big business like lowes ect. And if it's not you'll know you got the best deal you could. I was amazed we where given an estimate to replace all out indoor hot/cold lines for 2k... but our plumbing is fairly concentrated ect.
I'm actually quite frustrated atm as I come from a big DIY family... my parents always did the "grunt work" on remodels ect and we got an nice 1950's updater... and then I got preggo w/ number 2.. instead of ripping up carpets and walls, I'm baby baking a few more weeks then threw the winter... I have 2 bathrooms I want to gut and re-do... carpets everywhere covering beautiful hardwood... and I can't rip it out until spring at the earliest!
It's also always helpful to have friends/family that have done it to come help or give you advise.
