I just noticed that your panel is only 3/4" ? how do you plan to pull that off? I can tell you mine is 1" 72"x36" and it has some deflection I cannot imagine what a 3/4" panel 48" high would do. There's no way that would work long term, or hell possibly short term.
 
$2 a gallon. That's a lot.

$2 a gallon would be $1200, glass is 1/2" thick so would be about $300 new so thats $1.50 per gallon total. If you keep the glass 30" tall or under you can use 1/2" thick glass. My glass was 96"X30" I cut 2" off the 96" long part to allow the plywood sides and pond shield thickness
