I did a search on YouTube for Costa Rican dovii and a couple colour forms came up. One was the dovii with blue fins and a light coloured body with a blue face. The other was a golden coloured body and golden fins. One of these fish was purchased from Don Conkel and has outstanding colour! Anyone here have this colour form. There's lots of pictures posted of the blue form, if anyone has this golden one can you post your picture here?

There is two strains Costa Rican and Nicaraguan. Nics have a grey purple base with blue fins Costa Rican have a yellow or "gold" base with blue fins. I don't think their is a Costa Rican blue and a Costa Rican gold, those Dovii you see that have.gold fins are probably a colorless Dovii just like I have seen Nics that are grey and full with no color or blue.
Real hard cichlids looks awesome that was rare but we don't know the purity of it. Some Costa Ricans will have.more of a gold body hence Costa Rican Gold.

Jagster, with such a beautiful Dovii you need a monster umbee by it's side lol I have some sweet Umbee fry growing out freckles at only half inch :-)

Color names all marketing IMO

I recall there was a guy trying to develop a super blue dovii when he noticed one of his juvis showing unusually strong gold coloration, I'll see if I can find the youtube vids he posted up. It wasn't a lack of color at all, the dovii was just really gold with strong blues as well.

There's another country too, Honduras! But these aren't exact locations but rather countries of origin. At each location caught there could be slight differences. I think when they refer to the Nicaraguan dovii they are referring to the recent imports from lake Nicaragua. I've been told that the fish from the rivers are a bit more streamline and lighter in color and are also referred as Nicaraguan dovii. So now we have 2 different locations that have probably been crossed together to give us a slightly different looking dovii. This has probably happened with dovii from Costa Rica as well. This is why killifish keepers are so anal about location information and that every species sold has a location with it. If location is not known or lost then it is sold as an "aquarium strain". Im sure there are people breeding nics to Costa Ricans not knowing and I'm sure the offspring are great looking they are just not pure. I'd love to see some imput on this thread from the experts or anyone who has collected in Costa Rica or Nicaragua. I'm friends with the curator at the Toronto zoo who has led many fish collecting expeditions in Costa Rica, I will ask him for some imput. Btw, have you guys ever heard of the elusive red dovii ;-)

It's unfortunate but that's what's happened in the cichlid market. Take istlanum for example. This fish was lost in the hobby for a few years. Then collections were made and locations were put with the fish because there were different color variations. About 5 years ago I bought 2 locations from Dan Woodland. I can't remember the locations but one was a green fish and the other was red. Now you don't see the locations tagged with these fish when offered for sale. Rather its istlanum green, red, and I've seen one person selling gold. Sad but true!

Of course we've heard of it but I wanna know who's actually seen one or has any information on them or if they're even real
