Now I kno it will depend on the individual fish and how agressive they are. Im new to central american cichlids. do you think a co-hab of a male dovii, jag, umbee, midus work in a 480g?? would this be a big nono or possible? start them all off as babies together. any comments or anyhting very much welcome. the foot print would be 8'-4'. thank you!

Id try it like u said it depends on the fish the, younger u get them the better i reckon, anything has a chance of working (personly id let the dovi be the smallest when they go in), next year im going to get a custom made 12foot tank with a dovi, jag, devil and my already owned gt,jd,fesat and oscar.

DO IT!

i wouldnt do it. some say the bare minimum for a dovii alone is a 6x2x2 so couple that with an umbee that gets just as big as an adult but needs a 7x3 foot print minimum for itself then your tank suddenly looks really inadequate. and then add in 2 pieces of fodder for the 2 big open water predators to hunt and your down to 2 fish again. then the 2 big predators will probably fight until one dies and from what i believe it will be the umbee as dovii grow faster so your now down to one big predator and a very nice home for it. or if you add the umbee at quite a larger size then the dovii will become prey for it. but either way my prediction is your going to have one very big but very happy fish.
it is true that every fish is different but i think any that have had any of the 2 big predators in a community setting have been the 1 in a million chance rather than the norm.
if you do this expect blood shed IMO.

hmm well its soemthing to think on i guess, thats what im worried about cichlid2006. would it be a waste to just have a dovii in that big a tank, i guess it would bet pretty big in there though eh haha how big could they get like 20 "?

go for an umbee and get a few oscars that have overgrown the 20 gallon tanks people try to keep them in, start the umbee off with a couple 4 oscars larger than it and possibly it might not decide to kill them after it gets larger.

I'd be interested to hear from someone with a tank this big, because from what I've heard, tank size can really affect the personality of the fish. Just something to think about, they may be killers in a 125, but a bit calmer in something with that footprint, but i don't have that size tank so I'm just wondering.

i have an 8x8 with 5 oscars, 2 jags, 3 jd's, 2 pacu, 3 tinfoil barbs, 4 xl pleco's, 1 4 line pim, 1 24" channel cat, 1 florida gar, 1 black shark, AND 1 8" GOLDFISH.

im here to tell ya that you can do it, that is why i said to try something most people wouldnt, cause you have the footprint most people dont. go for it, if it doesnt work you'll have one big monster running a big *** tank.

although i would have to say to do everything you can to have no line of sight, put in alot of decor and possibly some larger dithers.
