over a foot... sometimes a foot & a half... in captivity that is...

Whao! Okay 55g is a bit under sized for two+babies. Guess I'm glad I never bought one. My LFS has them for a pretty good price too.

A 55 gal is not big enough to house one festae for very long... by the time it reaches sexual maturity it will need a bigger tank... putting two in that tank is asking for a lot of trouble...

take that advice I learned the hard way :(

i bred a pair of festae in a 55g, the male was 4" and female was 3.5"

If the pair need to be seperated between spawning, which is common when dealing with real large/aggressive Cichlids, then a 4' tank will not allow each fish enough space during seperation...

So a very docile pair or a pair that get along unnaturally well could be kept in a 75/90 gal... but it is highly unlikely that you will get that lucky to randomly get a docile male and a docile female that coincidentally get along really well...

a 6' tank would allow the fish to seperate themselves naturally (distance between them) avoiding the need for a divider... and if you do need to divide the tank the fish will definately appreciate the extra square footage...

You can. If you must.
