ok so i found out that my dad is loving my jds:), but wishes they had more color:( or that we could get some with better colors:naughty:, so could i do a ebjd? current stock is looking like,
2 reg jd's(females)
1 blood parrot
1 bushynose pleco
and i also will def have 3 pictus and 1 ornate pimelodus catfish. the rest of the stock is being decided in another thread, peaceful or aggresive communtiy+stocking or something along thoose lines. thnx:confused:
and yes my dad does pretty much have a decent say in what i put in my tanks, i really would rather not go into why;)

I have seen EBJD mixed with other Jd's without issue. I'm sure there are factors such as tank size and sex that make them more likely to live together without incident. Given it's a large enough tank, and you truly do have two female JD's, I don't think adding a male EBJD would be a problem. You would need plenty of tank space and cover, but it can be done successfully.

NO they need special thing for them to make it. :)

I can't see why it would be a problem. As long as the other tankmates are of similar size. EBJD's tend to be sold extremely small so depending on the size of your other fish you may need a grow out tank. Though I've heard repeatedly that EBJD's are alot more peaceful than regular JD's though I've had JD's and they were never as relentless as other cichlids. I personally think as long as the tanks of a suitable size and there are plenty of caves/hides for them to claim mini-territories they should fine. Trick I used to use with keeping cichlids of differnt sizes was to make sure some of the hides could only be entered by the smaller tankmates, small entrances kept the bigger ones out. Gives them a safe place to retreat to if they're getting beat on.

if he can't get one that 4" then he will need a grow out tank.

It's been my experience that with mixing two same sex JDs with one of the opposite sex, bad things will follow. A pair will form and the odd one out will be pushed away violently. Since EBJD seem to be a bit more fragile than reg JD you should use caution to prevent this. If you manage to get a tank large enough to house all the fish that you have and want, I would keep all the JD the same sex or keep only a pair. Whatever you do, grow the EBJD out before you toss it in with the others.

is this still your 30 gallon thats in your sig? if so, then i wouldnt do it. if not and you got your other bigger tank set up then id say grow out the ebjd in the 30 by himself tell he reaches 4-5 inches then add him to the bigger tank.
